Dubai is a city within the emirate of the same name and part of the United Arab Emirates.  Known as the ‘shopping capital of the east, Dubai’s main tourist attraction is shopping.  However, there are many attractions both modern and ancient to interest the 7.6 million tourist that visit the city every year.  This impressive figure makes Dubai the 7th most visited city in the world.

With more than seventy shopping malls in Dubai City alone, it is no wonder that it attracts shoppers from as far afield as the Indian Subcontinent, Eastern Europe and Africa.  The world’s biggest shopping mall is located in Dubai and is called, strangely enough, Dubai Mall.  Although some supermarkets, boutiques, electronic shops and department stored operate on a fixed price basis, friendly negotiation is the preferred option at other retail outlets.

Dubai enjoys a tropical desert climate which means that the summers are very hot, windy and humid, whilst the winters are warm.  Winter temperatures averaging 23°C would be very welcome in Britain on a summer’s day.  Throughout the year the days are sunny with very little rain even in the winter months.

TravelupIf all that sunshine is a little bit too much for you, there are many places you can go to get away from it.  Dubai Mall is an excellent place to take children.  Dubai is very family oriented and children are welcomed anywhere.  Inside Dubai Mall you will find the Dubai aquarium which houses a staggering 33000 different species and you also have the opportunity to go through the shark tunnel.  The kids are bound to find the 7000 sqm Sega Republic indoor amusement park a fascinating diversion and KidZania is a complete mini-city where they can play at being practically anything from a bus driver to a doctor.

A real treat is in store for those adventurous enough to hop into a jeep to take a desert safari.  The skilful drivers will take you over 300m high sand dunes for spectacular desert views and you will get the chance to strap on a board and go sand surfing.
