New York, although not very old, is one of the most multicultural cities in the world. New York’s Queens District is the most multicultural place in the world, with over 170 different languages spoken across the community. This relative lack of heritage, combined with a fast explosion of growth through millions of immigrant communities from all around the world, has created an incredible and totally unique palate of flavours for New York’s food scene.Travelup ReviewsEach different community to call New York their home has introduced some of their own traditions and dishes to the city’s cuisine to create a remarkably rich and varied range of foods, restaurants and cafes. Visitors to New York can’t consider themselves to have had the full experience until they’ve sampled this wide range of foods created in countries around the world and re-imagined in America’s Big Apple.

- Pizza

Brought over by early Italian immigrants, Americans supersized traditional Italian thin crust pizzas to create the unique New York deep pan pizza. New Yorkers take particular joy in ordering pizza in giant individual slices with incredible ranges of toppings.

- Bagels

An old Jewish tradition, bagels soon caught on in New York during the twentieth century, as their quick portable nature was perfect to New York’s fast paced lifestyle. Bagel delis now line the streets of New York, ready for busy Wall Street types to hop in, grab a bagel and eat it on the go.

- Cheesecake

New York cheesecake is one example of a food that actually originated in New York. New York chefs were in fact trying to replicate France’s Neufchatel Cheese and accidentally stumbled across the softest, creamiest cheese that was perfect to be made into rich, sweet and delicious cheesecakes that have since caught on around the world.

- Eggs Benedict

For breakfast in New York, you can wake up to traditional eggs benedict. Poached eggs, hollandaise sauce and bacon on an English muffin make traditional Eggs Benedict, however across New York, you’ll find many variations to try.

Oakland is one of the lesser known cities of the San Francisco Bay area. Although not so famous as its neighbours San Francisco, Sacramento and San Jose, Oakland has in fact benefited somewhat from its relative anonymity by allowing it to develop a richly independent arts scene. The artistic community of Oakland is one of the most vibrant and creative of America and one of the central hubs of that artistic movement.TravelupTourists travelling around America will generally clatter from one mainstream tourist hotspot to another; the Statue of Liberty, Grand Canyon, Golden Gate Bridge and so on and so forth. Stopping off to visit Oakland however will provide a traveller with a taste of a more vibrant America.

Due to hefty house prices around the rest of California, Oakland’s cheaper house prices attracted a large number of poorer artists just starting out on their careers. That new community of artists clubbed together and found a new sense of artistic freedom in the lesser known city of Oakland. Subsequently the city saw a number of art cafes and independent galleries open up that began to display some of the most cutting edge art of America today.

The Fox Oakland Theatre is one of the main venues of the Oakland arts scene. Built originally as a cinema in 1928, the magnificent Middle Eastern styled building began to fall into disrepair during the 80s and 90s when out-of-town multi-screen cinema complexes drove smaller theatres out of business. The Fox Oakland Theatre was bought by the local Oakland authority in 1996 but took until 2009 to be fully renovated for the community.

Today the Fox Oakland Theatre still plays a selection of films, but is also a central performance venue, community centre and home to the Oakland School of the Arts. The Fox Oakland Theatre now hosts a busy schedule of theatre, music gigs and constant installations of innovative new Oakland art. The venue’s new restaurant ‘The Den’ is one of the most vibrant and thrillingly artistic places to eat in the US.

There is part of yourself that you will never truly know until you visit New York City. The energy and attitude is unmatched, and you will discover your inner New Yorker when you interact with not only the people, but the sights, sounds, and even smells that you experience while travelling through the city.

New York is home to the USA’s largest population and expands over five relatively compact boroughs. 9 million people reside within the city limits, and once you’ve seen a crowded train at rush hour, you will wonder if it really is only 9 million. With extreme ethnic diversity, the neighbourhood can change block to block, especially if you find yourself in Brooklyn and Queens.

With so much to do and see, and with relatively little mileage to cover, New York is extremely walk able. If you would like to use public transportation to get around, there is ample opportunity to do so; though the maps and codes can be a little confusing for someone who has never travelled in the city before. And, of course, New York offers a seemingly endless fleet of yellow taxis.

You will never get bored in The Big Apple, as it truly is the city that never sleeps. Though Times Square is considered to be the tourist trap of the city ,the flashing lights and glittering ads should still be seen at least once, even if it is only on your way to the theatre. If there’s nothing on Broadway that interests you, try Off Broadway, or the often-free Off Off Broadway.

For food lovers, New York is home to some of the best restaurants in the world, including Thomas Keller’s Per Se in Midtown, which is directly across Columbus Circle from Jean-Georges. Both of these eateries have been awarded three Michelin Stars, and command price points to reflect the awards. It’s worth the money if you can swing it, as a meal at one of these monster restaurants is an experience that will stay with you forever.

If you are looking for a little bit of culture after all the glitz and glam, The Museum of Modern Art is home to some of the most exquisite pieces in the world, and is free to enter with only a suggested donation at the door.

Oakland, CaliforniaOakland, which can be found on the Eastern side of the San Francisco Bay is often referred to as “The Other City by the Bay.” It’s a mild corner of California that is more famous for its cultural offerings than its weather. It’s a destination that can give you the opportunity to see a slightly different aspect of American life due to a diverse population that hasn’t completely risen past the stigma of lawlessness that dogged the city for many years.

Dubai is a city within the emirate of the same name and part of the United Arab Emirates.  Known as the ‘shopping capital of the east, Dubai’s main tourist attraction is shopping.  However, there are many attractions both modern and ancient to interest the 7.6 million tourist that visit the city every year.  This impressive figure makes Dubai the 7th most visited city in the world.

With more than seventy shopping malls in Dubai City alone, it is no wonder that it attracts shoppers from as far afield as the Indian Subcontinent, Eastern Europe and Africa.  The world’s biggest shopping mall is located in Dubai and is called, strangely enough, Dubai Mall.  Although some supermarkets, boutiques, electronic shops and department stored operate on a fixed price basis, friendly negotiation is the preferred option at other retail outlets.

Dubai enjoys a tropical desert climate which means that the summers are very hot, windy and humid, whilst the winters are warm.  Winter temperatures averaging 23°C would be very welcome in Britain on a summer’s day.  Throughout the year the days are sunny with very little rain even in the winter months.

TravelupIf all that sunshine is a little bit too much for you, there are many places you can go to get away from it.  Dubai Mall is an excellent place to take children.  Dubai is very family oriented and children are welcomed anywhere.  Inside Dubai Mall you will find the Dubai aquarium which houses a staggering 33000 different species and you also have the opportunity to go through the shark tunnel.  The kids are bound to find the 7000 sqm Sega Republic indoor amusement park a fascinating diversion and KidZania is a complete mini-city where they can play at being practically anything from a bus driver to a doctor.

A real treat is in store for those adventurous enough to hop into a jeep to take a desert safari.  The skilful drivers will take you over 300m high sand dunes for spectacular desert views and you will get the chance to strap on a board and go sand surfing.

Bangkok is more than just a big city filled with shopping malls, bars and restaurants. Although many people do not realise when they first arrive here, there are actually a large number of parks scattered around Bangkok, which are perfect for picnics or a long walk.

Overlooking downtown Bangkok’s most spectacular views, Benjakitti Park spans more than 210,000sqms, and sits just across the way from the Queen Sirikit National Centre. Swathed in lush greenery and home to the vast Lake Ratchada, with dedicated jogging and bicycle paths, this is a great place to escape the hustle and bustle of city life. In the middle of the lake, Travelup adds, there is a magnificent fountain, along with a large stage which is used for light performances at New Year’s Eve. If you don’t feel like taking a stroll or going for a cycle around the park, you can always rent a paddle or a row boat and enjoy the views of the rest of the park from the lake.

Another park, which is relatively new in comparison to Bangkok’s other green spaces, is Benjasiri. Travelup ReviewsTravelup reviews of this park say that its one of the best places in the city for those with an interest in art and sculpture, as some of Thailand’s most impressive pieces can be found here. The park’s centrepiece is a fountain, created by Mesium Yipinsoy, the master sculptor, which features a beautiful water display three times each day. Whilst you cannot take paddle boat out on the water here, Travelup explains, there are plenty of other activities which you can entertain yourself with; you can take a dip in the outdoor swimming pool, go rollerblading in the rink, or join in a game of tennis on the court.

For those who prefer a more peaceful park environment, there’s nowhere better than Chatuchak Park, located in the northern part of downtown Bangkok. You can simply relax and soak up the beauty of the gardens here, or take a refreshing walk along the tree-lined paths. Just recently, the old golf course which sits next to the park was added as an extension to Chatuchak, and is now home to both soccer fields and tennis courts. With its abundance of benches which are shaded by trees, Travelup says, this is the ideal spot if you want to cool down on a hot day in the city.

Home to some of the most creatively designed theme parks in the world, it makes sense that Orlando also has an incredibly vibrant art and culture scene. There’s an endless amount of galleries, museums, historical sites and architecture to explore in this city. To help you choose which ones to see during your visit, Travelup has gathered a few of its ‘must-see art and culture attractions in Orlando.

Of the abundance of treasures that await visitors in Central Florida, none is quite so visually dazzling as an exploration of the rooms inside The C.H Morse Museum of American Art. According to Travelup reviews, this museum is home of one of the most comprehensive collections of artwork by Louis Tiffany in the world. Some of the highlights, according to Travelup reviews, include the Byzantine chapel which Tiffany created specifically for the Columbian Exposition in 1893, as well as the new wing which displays Tiffany’s collection of architectural and art objects which he kept in his own home during his lifetime.

The Regional History centre, housed inside of a stunning, five-storey courthouse built in 1927, can be found in the very heart of Downtown Orlando. Here visitors can explore the vast collection of artefacts from the Florida’s Historical Society. The museum has some highly interactive features and exhibits included in its three floors of permanent displays. You can journey through the history of Florida, Travelup says, from 12,000 years ago up to the present day; the exhibits perfectly depict the transition from the state’s Indian settlements, to cattle ranches, to today’s tourist centric, artsy community.

The Baterbys Art gallery is, Travelup says, a world class facility which is home to some of the greatest works of art in history; some of the artists whose pieces can be found here include Joan Miro, Henri Matisse, Marc Chagall and many others which can only be found in the USA’s top museums. Travelup In addition to these, the museum also houses an incredible array of work from some of today’s most well known contemporary artists, such as Pino, Gary Benfield, Alfred Gockel and Peter Max.
