If you love shopping, Sydney is one of the best cities in Australia to visit; this place has it all, from home-grown fashion and designer labels, to enormous outlets and vibrant markets. For those heading in the direction of Sydney, who are in need a bit of retail therapy, Travelup has compiled a list of the city’s best shopping spots.
The most popular place for shopping in the city centre, according to many Travelup reviews, is Westfield Sydney. This houses four floors of the most well known fashion labels, and could easily keep you busy for an entire day. Even if you’re on a budget, it’s worth taking a stroll through the nearby Strand Arcade and Queen Victoria building, both of which contain beautifully restored interiors, as well as several unique fashion boutiques featuring both international and local brands.
For designer clothing, you need look no further than King, Elizabeth and Castlereagh streets, each of which is home to several of the leading designer brans, including Gucci and Chanel. You can also find two department stores here, the largest of their kind in Australia, where there are personal stylists on hand to help you choose the most flattering outfits.
However, if vintage garments and bargain priced goods are more your thing, Travelup recommends spending a day in one of Sydney’s many markets. For fresh food, flowers and trinkets, the simply named Syndey Market at Flemington is perfect. This market has been around since 1788 and is still one of the city’s most well loved.
Another option is Paddy’s Market, located in the Haymarket area, close to Chinatown. This is open from Thursday until Sunday each week, and the colourful markets here are just a short walk away from Pyrmont and Darling Harbour. If you’re looking for a more modern, artistic market, Travelup experts say you should head down to the inner city markets such as Paddington, Rozelle Weekend Market, or Glebe market, where you can find furniture, shoes, records, handmade goods, second hand books, artwork created by local artists and vintage clothing. Open every Saturday, these three markets are ideal for those looking for one-of-a-kind items.
